The district's Community Farm Fair is Thursday, April 30th. The event is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Weston-McEwen High School and includes livestock, booths highlighting agriculture-related businesses, community colleges and FFA and 4-H projects, activities for kids and the FFA Plant Sale.
In addition, there will be a presentation about AWSD's proposed bond at the event.
“This a great opportunity for our families and community to gather to celebrate our CTE and agriculture activities and get information about the May bond,” said Ann Vescio, Superintendent.
Another chance to learn about the bond is Saturday, May 2 with Coffee and Bond Q & A from 8:00 to 9:00 AM at the Sugar Shack in Athena. AWSD Board Chair Tim Seymour will be there.
If passed by voters, the district’s proposed bond would build a new Career, Trades, and Technical Education Center at the district’s Athena campus. It would include art, metal, and wood spaces, general science labs and a multipurpose classroom. The bond would raise $4.98 million in taxpayer revenue, matched with a state grant of $4.98 million for a total of $9.96 million for proposed projects. The proposed bond has a 10-year term and is estimated to maintain the district’s 25-26 bond property tax rate of $1.24 per $1,000 of assessed value.
