Recently, Athena-Weston was recognized by a national nonprofit news organization that cover's America's education system as an exceptional district based upon third grade reading proficiency. Reading data from Oregon state's 2022-2023 Smarter Balanced Assessment and the local poverty level was used to determine this rating. Research has shown that as poverty increases, reading performance tends to decrease.
