The Board of Directors for the Athena-Weston School District requests the Superintendent to establish a Bond Oversight Committee (BOC). Comprised of 8-10 community members, the BOC’s core purpose will be to carefully monitor the delivery of the proposed bond program to
ensure accountability, fiscal transparency, and community trust. The Superintendent will serve as the direct liaison to the group.
The purpose of the Bond Oversight Committee will be to provide the District with an independent review of the major projects proposed to voters in the May 19, 2026 election. The Committee will meet at least quarterly and will provide annual written progress reports to the community and Board of Directors. The Committee will be responsible to:
- Review financial statements, project scope, design documents, and bid solicitations to ensure that bond dollars are only being spent on projects approved by voters;
- Regularly inspect project construction to ensure bond revenues are expended appropriately;
- Make recommendations to the Superintendent as to policies and procedures that will enhance accountability for bond dollars to district stakeholders;
- Assist in maintaining public trust and confidence in the district
Applicants must be residents of the school district, registered to vote, and may not be an officer, agent, employee, or official of the school district. In addition, applicants may not represent any vendor who may be a contractor or subcontractor on Bond Projects or be a consultant of the school district.
