The Athena-Weston School District is pleased to support the firefighting efforts in our area. A fire camp is currently occupying the grounds and some indoor spaces at Athena Elementary School and Weston-McEwen High School. We are grateful for the incredible skill and effort of the firefighters who are working relentlessly to contain and extinguish the numerous fires surrounding our community.
School offices across the District re-open to the public on Monday, August 3rd. We expect the fire camp to begin to downsize next week and to be disassembled by August 15th. The District is coordinating with the fire camp to ensure that school offices and athletic practices are accessible to our families and students.
A few key reminders until the fire camp closes on or about August 15th:
- Parking at Athena Elementary is very limited. Visitors should park along the curbed bus lane in front of the school.
- Parking at Weston-McEwen is limited to the marked spaces in front of the building.
- Visitors should avoid the clearly marked fire camp areas. Trucks and equipment move in and among those areas regularly.
- Weston is not impacted by the fire camp.
Again, the District is honored to be a support facility for the firefighting effort this summer. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions. We look forward to re-opening our school offices on August 3rd and to welcoming students back to school on Monday, August 31st!
